Special Guest Teacher: Christine Bylsma

Dropped stitches can be a wonderful asset, not a liability, in your knitting. Explore how to add dropped stitches for maximum effect and with confidence as you create Chris' intriguing "Summer Hours" cardigan wrap. We will start with a "test run" to familiarize yourself with dropped stitches and the wide variety of cables and patterns found in the jacket. Then choose your yarns and cast on the real thing! If you prefer, create the timeless "Ladder Shawl" or another of Chris' dropped stitch designs.

This class is appropriate for intermediate and experienced knitters

Summer Hours

PRIOR TO CLASS:

1) Bring needles sizes #5, 6, 7, plus scissors, calculator, flexible tape measure, and a top that fits you nicely for measuring.

2) Using the long-tail cast on work a 5" x 5" stockinette swatch in a smooth, light-color yarn and appropriate needles. Do not bind off or cut yarn.

Learn how to knit with beads without pre-stringing. With this method you can add beads wherever you want and the beads show on both sides! Hand-dyed yarn and added picot edges create an elegant look. No previous bead knitting required!

This lovely scarf uses two colors of hand-painted yarns and a unique cross-over stitch. Learn how to create beaded fringe and a bind-off that ensures even edges when knitting a scarf the long way.

Introduction to Knitting

Designed for those who have never knit but want to learn or those who would like a refresher class. Making a square will cover casting on, binding off, knit and purl.

Introduction to Crochet

Crochet is an excellent technique to learn for afghans, bags, and – of course – sweaters and more! You can also use crochet to add beautiful edgings and embellishments to any knitted project. In this class, you’ll learn the basics: chain stitches, single and double crochet.

Are you ready to add flair, texture, and interest to your stitching? Then this sampler is just for you! Special guest instructor Dori Weinkauf will take you through a wonderful array of 16 decorative stitches with this striking sampler, including Moorish, trellis cross, random rhodes, rounded wheat, Hungarian, mosaic, and more. You can also expand your fiber knowledge by using perle cotton, kreinik metallic braid, and watercolors in colors of your choice.

Beginner Sweater

Learn all the skills for making a sweater on a quick-to-knit baby (or child’s) sweater. You’ll learn how to read patterns, increase, decrease, pick up stitches and finish. Weekend Pullover

This super-bulky pullover is guaranteed to be the fastest sweater you’ll ever make. It’s suitable for your first sweater for a quickie for more intermediate knitters. Made from the neck down you’ll learn increasing and knitting in-the-round. There are no seams to sew, and you’ll be almost done at the end of the class.

Shadow Knitting Pillow

2 session(s) - 2 hrs - $52 -- Includes book: Shadow Knitting by Vivian Hoxbro.

This class will show you how to make a shadow knit pillow. Shadow knitting uses just two stitch patterns, garter stitch and stockinette stitch to create the “shadow patterns.” If you look at a shadow-knit piece directly from the front, it is difficult to see the pattern, but when the piece moves the pattern becomes visible – almost like magic!

Kumihimo Braiding

Kumihimo is a Japanese braid-making technique which dates to about 550 C.E. was originally used to create decorative cords for religious ceremonies, clothing, hanging banners, and holding Samurai swords. Today, these gorgeous braids can be used embellish your knitted bags as handles, as jewelry, or anything your heart desires!

Class Policies
  • Yarn and materials for classes and workshops must be purchased at Ruhama’s.
  • A 10% discount is given on any materials purchased for or during class.
  • Payment in full and completed registration form confirms your place in the class. When mailing in registration form, unless notified otherwise, you are registered for the classes submitted.
  • REFUND POLICY: Student must notify Ruhama’s at least one week before the class in order to receive a refund. After that date fees are not refundable or transferable.
  • Missed class time is student’s responsibility and no refunds will be issued.
  • Ruhama’s reserves the right to change a date and/or cancel a class if there is not enough interest.
  • Classes must have 3 students enrolled to start and 6 maximum (unless otherwise stated) to insure personal attention. You will be notified by telephone of a date change or cancellation.
  • All evening classes - please enter store through rear entrance only.
